Anna University, Chennai has announced the TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) merit list/rank list. Candidates can check their TNEA 2014 ranks on the official website of Anna University TNEA website by entering their application number and date of birth or the direct link is given at the last. Around 1.74 lakh candidates appeared in the TNEA 2014 examinations and among them 92,731 students (59,427 male; 33,304 female) are first graduates and thus are eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
The TNEA candidates are ranked based on the aggregate mark or cut-off marks held in these TNEA 2014 exam. The TNEA ranked candidates will be divided into counseling sessions ordered by rank and in turn each counseling session process will be ordered rank wise. Many candidates are definitely going to get a tie because of similar aggregate marks. In such rank order cases, the tie would be broken like this:

Many candidates are definitely going to get a tie because of similar aggregate marks. In such rank order cases, the tie would be broken like this:
- If two candidates have the same aggregate marks, the candidate with higher Maths mark will be ranked above;
- If the Maths Mark is same, then a higher Physics mark would break the tie;
- If the Maths and Physics mark are same, then the Chemistry mark would be eventually same. The fourth optional subject mark would break the tie;
- If the fourth optional subject marks are also same then the candidate's date of birth will be considered. Elder candidate gets the benefit of being ranked above;
- If the date of birth is also same, then a 10-digit random number assigned to each candidate decides the ranking. A candidate with the highest random number will be ranked above the other.
- Based on the TNEA ranks, the candidates would be called for admission counseling. A call letter informing the counseling schedue for a particular candidate for seat allotment will be sent to the address of the candidate. TNEA is schedue to announce the Sports rank tomorrow i.e. June 17. The academic general counseling is to begin on June 27 and will conclude on July 28.
